Artists for Haiti I will be raising funds for Lycée Jean-Baptiste Cinéas in Limbé, Haiti. The Lycee has 2 sets of classes, morning and afternoon, of approximately 2000 students, boys and girls and 100 staff. However it has no funding, no library, no cafetaria, no computer labs, no court to play in. All funds received will be directed towards this school to secure funding for continued education, all the more important given the devastating events since Jan 12th.

We here at PTR are devastated hearing the news of the earthquake in Haiti that has seriously affected thousands of people.

Hatian-born Vox Sambou is a personal friend and artist on PTR. Vox has been on a mission raising awareness about Haiti, culminating over the last couple of years with a community centre project in his hometown of Limbé, Haiti. PTR has supported Vox by helping organize fundraisers to aid in his efforts. ‘Sit to Learn’ was one of them, where we helped raise cash to purchase badly-needed chairs.

If you’re thinking about sending cash to Haiti to help in aid efforts, please consider supporting Vox and his community work back home.

Any amount you can give to Vox will be an enormous boost to help him, his friends and relatives in Haiti whose lives have been seriously affected by this earthquake.

Vox was on Montreal’s CBC Radio earlier today where he spoke about the situation and gave good and bad news. He talked about hearing news on losing close friends yet at the same time was relived to hear that his father in the north is safe.

Let’s get the word out and support our friends in need.

Send any amount to < info@voxsambou.com > via paypal

https://www.paypal.ca/sendmoney

Thank you – Moonstarr & The PTR CREW

Haitian-born rapper Vox Sambou tackles the issue of the AIDS epidemic in his new video DiscriminaSida. The song is featured on his upcoming second LP, scheduled for release in 2010. Vox Sambou, a founding member of multilingual Hip Hop super group Nomadic Massive raps in Creole, Spanish, English and French. Accordingly, as well as to highlight the universal plight that is discrimination against people living with AIDS, the video is translated in three languages.

The theme of World AIDS Day 2009 hinges around leadership: Stop AIDS, keep the promise. World leaders are asked to be accountable for the discriminatory discrepancy between the commitments that have been made to halt the spread of AIDS, and actions taken to follow them through.

According to Sambou-“the discrimination is many-fold. There is a lack of knowledge about prevention; lack of basic resources especially in the northern part of Haiti, where I’m from; lack of inclusion of the sick in the society”. The perverse effect of this discrimination is that around 220 000 Haïtian children are orphaned because their caretakers are sick, cannot get treated and are ashamed or ostracised from contributing to society.

The video was directed by Dominican filmmaker Ariel Mota and was shot on the island of Kyskeya, today Santo Domingo.ideo was directed by Dominican filmmaker Ariel Mota and was shot on the island of Kyskeya, today Santo Domingo.
